End of Transition Period on January 2022

Situation before 2022


On December 31, 2020, the national system for managing UAS operating permits was replaced by European Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/947 of May 24, 2019 concerning the rules and procedures applicable to the operation of unmanned aircraft (UAS).

From December 31, 2020, several scenarios were possible, such as, the option to:

  • Fly with a national generic authorization
  • Fly under the OPEN Limited category
  • Fly under the  OPEN category (drones marked class "C")
  • Fly under a Specific Operational Authorization


Situation from January 2022

As of January 2022, the relaxed rules put in place during the period of transition  as provided for in Article 22 of the  European Regulation (EU) 2019/947 will expire and flights performed on the basis of national Generic Authorizations will no longer be permitted
